Abrexin Review

Abrexin Facts

  • Manufactured by Winning Combination Inc, Canada
  • 30 tablets taken one per day
  • Special coated “GP Shield” tablets that bypass stomach to target intestines

Abrexin is marketed in the US and Canada available from a number of retailers, which include GNC, Shoppers Drug Smart, The Real Canadian Superstore, Meijer and CVS/pharmacy.

The idea behind Abrexin is from Scientist Anthony L. Almada who has worked within the dietary supplement industry since 1975. So who is the company behind Abrexin? Good question!

The box displays “Essential Lab GP” and after lots of digging we managed to find that their domain, website hosting is all registered in Canada. We were able to confirm this when checking their trademark that is registered to a company called “The Winning Combination Inc.” who is also based in Winnipeg, Canada. Our digging was eventually confirmed when reading the Abrexin privacy policy.

Winning Combination Inc, was founded in 1990 and claims to be one of Canada’s largest manufacturers of natural health products. They have a number of brands that range from diet and vitamin supplements, Protein and diet shakes to stopping smoking tablets.

A check online for reports of Abrexin or Winning Combination scams or rip-offs came up blank, which is great to hear.

Abrexin is a very easy supplement to take; you only need to consume one tablet with 4-8 oz. of water, 30 minutes before bedtime. One consumer who has tried them has reported that the tablets actually have a nice vanilla taste.

For best results you are recommended to use for 8 weeks combined with a calorie-reduced diet and regularly physical activity. So you will need at least 2 boxes of Abrexin.

Abrexin Warnings

  • Preliminary study suggests Lactoferrin is promising, but far from conclusive
  • Lack of company information and full contact details
  • Lack of testimonials and money-back guarantee

What Does Abrexin Claim To Do?

Abrexin claims to be a breakthrough product that can….

tabs into your body’s natural ability to burn fat while you’re sleeping!

And that after taking just one tablet before going to bed you can…

dramatically increase the fat burning process called thermogenosis so that you can burn fat all night long!

This means that Abrexin can target those areas of the body known to store stubborn (or as the official site say, subborn!) fat stores.

Abrexin Web

So What Is Abrexin and What Are The Ingredients For Abrexin?

Somewhat a first for us when reviewing diet pills is the fact that each Abrexin tablet is coated with what the manufacturers call a GP-Shield. Its full name is “Gasto-Protective” Shield. This protective coating aims to prevent the potent acids in the stomach from breaking down the ingredients in the tablet.

Abrexin Supplement FactsWhen searching for more information about this special coating we only found web pages discussing Abrexin, suggesting this is indeed unique to this supplement. As for its effectiveness though, we need to see some clinical data that substantiates this claim.

Whilst the official site (and most online retailers) lacks a full ingredient profile we managed to find a label for Abrexin. There are only two active ingredients in each tablet, these are:

  • ThermoFerrin Lactoferrin (300mg): Found in large amounts in colostrums (first milk produced after a baby is born), which is seen in erm… breast milk! Also found in other secretary fluids but is most potent when produced from milk. It’s rich in antibodies, low in fat and functions as an antibacterial and antifungal agent. Although not stipulated by Abrexin the lactoferrin used here will most likely be from a bovine source and NOT human. One trial has suggested that Lactoferrin could increase lipid metabolism.
    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactoferrin
  • BioPerine (5mg): A black pepper extract used to increase the transportation of nutrients in the body. Some positive results could be seen for increasing the absorption levels of ingredients taken at the same time.

What is GP Shield? Not exactly an ingredient that helps weight loss but forms part of the tablet coating to ensure the other ingredients are not lost in transit before reaching intestines. Although the inventor has a YouTube video describing how this works, we were unable to find any research to confirm how effective this “shield” really is.

So What Does All This Mean?

You are taking Lactoferrin most likely from a bovine source that is wrapped in a protective shield that one study claims to boost thermogenosis whilst you sleep.

Although promoted as a thermogenic fat burner there are no stimulants or any harsh ingredients at all that are likely to cause strong, long-lasting side effects.

There is little evidence to suggest that Abrexin can improve sleep.

The fact is taking Abrexin won’t mean that you wake up slimmer!

Does Abrexin Have Any Side Effects?

The manufacturers claim that there is one side effect of Abrexin… and that’s better sleep! Although well tolerated in quantities found in foods we regularly consume, Lactoferrin can cause diarrhea. And in very high doses, skin rash, loss of appetite, fatigue, chills, and constipation have been reported.

A word of caution though, it probably goes without saying but if you’re lactose intolerant then this supplement is not for you!

Caution: As with most dietary supplements this is for adults over 18 with a body mass index of 18.5 over. Anyone taking prescription medication or has a pre-existing medical condition should seek professional medical advice prior to taking.

Any Abrexin Reviews From Customers?

Consumer feedback appears to be very poor for Abrexin with just currently 3 customer reviews on Amazon and nothing else (well apart from the one positive review on the official site!).

Abrexin Amazon ratingWith a rating of 2.0 out of 5 stars two testimonials have quoted as saying this product is “worthless” and “nothing”. In contrast more recently a consumer testimonial has reported feeling “no side effects, tummy feels less bloated” whilst taking Abrexin.

There are a couple of testimonials from satisfied customers on the official Abrexin website, but there is no way of confirming how genuine these are.

So Does Abrexin Work?

The basis for Abrexin helping to combat a low metabolism (also called metabolic syndrome), is the apparent effectiveness of Lactoferrin to boost fat metabolism.

The study that has sparked interest in Lactoferrin was conducted in Japan and published in the British Journal of Nutrition in 2010. The small study of 26 Japanese subjects either consumed 300mg of Lactoferrin or a placebo over 8 weeks. The results showed the group taking Lactoferrin lost 0.5kg (1lb) in body weight with a “tendency for a reduction in waist circumference”. They concluded that Lactoferrin is “a promising agent for the control of visceral fat accumulation”.

Source: http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=7930313

So it works right? Whilst the study is certainly encouraging it’s far from conclusive and considering this appears to be THE only clinical research to reach these results, more data is without doubt needed using a larger sample size.

In fact, trusted health information portal WebMD, states that:

more evidence is needed to rate the effectiveness of lactoferrin for these uses.

Source: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-49-LACTOFERRIN.aspx?activeIngredientId=49&activeIngredientName=LACTOFERRIN

So what about the claim that Abrexin helps you to sleep better?

Whilst Lactoferrin is said to help babies to sleep by reducing anxiety, the benefits may not be experienced by adults as orally ingested Lactoferrin is rapidly decomposed in the stomach.

But what about the GP-Shield, surely this protects the Lactoferrin?

It may well do, but without clinical data to support the effectiveness of the GP-Shield it’s impossible to say if this really works.

Normally an “enteric coating” is applied to oral medication to prevent the release of medication before reaching the intestine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enteric_coating). So is the “GP-Shield” the same thing?

In conclusion, initial research suggests that Lactoferrin may be a promising weight loss ingredient but further data is required. Otherwise we are taking the findings of a tiny test group of 30 Japanese subjects on which to make conclusive claims.

Where Can I Buy Abrexin?

Abrexin isn’t available to purchase directly from the official website but through the 20,000 retailers across the US and Canada. Some of the retailers reported to have this supplement we had trouble finding it online though, for example GNC.

Prices vary between retailers but are around $30 for one months’ supply of 30 tablets, which makes it fairly cost effective.

What About a Guarantee?

There appears to be no money-back guarantee on offer from the manufacturer.

Watchdog Verdict

So can you wake up slimmer with Abrexin? Well it would nice but the fact is it’s not as easy as this. Whilst preliminary research suggests Lactoferrin may promote weight loss more data is needed to make conclusions.

Looking at the few consumer testimonials available suggests the “real world” results don’t match up to those claimed and certainly not to the clinical study from which this product is based upon!

We loved the fact that no stimulants are used and that the supplement is available from reputable retailers both online and on the high street.

However, the official Abrexin website, in our opinion not only has incomplete product information, but fails to disclose full company contact information (only a phone number exists). Considering there is no money-back guarantee we would suggest looking elsewhere for a clinically proven diet pill.

If you’re looking to boost thermogenosis you might well be better wearing some thick Pyjamas and a winter duvet to get a similar result. We reject Abrexin.

Watchdog Approved Diet Pills

So What Is Proactol Plus?

Proactol Plus Facts

  • Proven track record on the market for 5 years
  • Certified medical device under Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC in Europe
  • 2011 Human Trial showed 70% achieving positive weight loss results

Proactol Plus is owned by Claire Brentwood, a former dieter who got sick and tired of dieting products that simply didn’t work. She has been reported to have been so impressed by Proactol Plus she bought the company!

We were able to contact Proactol Plus directly as they have 3 dedicated customer support lines. We tried both the UK and US numbers and whilst we didn’t manage to speak to Claire [;)], we did speak to a very knowledgeable and helpful customer support person!

Proactol Plus is a fat binder and appetite suppressant that uses a natural fibre found in cactus called Opuntia ficus-indica, also known as prickly pear.

The fibres help to make some of the fat in your diet too large to be digested, Proactol Plus gets rid of some of this fat so it passes naturally through your body without being absorbed.

In just under 4 months, student Lauren Cobbs has managed to lose 1 stone 11lbs by taking Proactol as part of a healthy diet..

Proactol Plus case study

Feedback from some consumers have reported reservations in buying Proactol Plus due to the price. The fact is Proactol Plus is one of the few over the counter diet pills that has approved medical device status.

Proactol Plus have invested heavily into clinical trials to back up weight loss claims making it more expensive than other diet pills. The old saying “you get what you pay for” comes to mind though!

Proactol Plus Benefits:

  • Can block 27% of fats in your meals – reducing your daily calories by 295 kcals!
  • May prevent hunger and food cravings so that you eat less
  • Clinically proven to work and has approved medical device status (MDD 93/42/EEC) for weight management

What Are The Ingredients For Proactol Plus?

Proactol Plus uses a natural fibre found in cactus plant called Opuntia ficus-indica (also known as prickly pear).

One fibre is non-soluble that binds with fats in your stomach from your meal making them harder to digest. The other fibre is soluble which works to slow down digestion helping you to feel fuller and so less hungry!

How Proactol Plus Works

Unlike many diet pills ingredients, especially the synthetic ones found in many stimulant based fat burners, the ingredients in Proactol Plus are suitable for vegetarians.

Here is the full list of ingredients based on a serving size of 3 tablets:

  • Opuntia ficus-indica (1.605g)
  • Dietary fibre (1g)
  • Calcium (195mg)
  • Carbohydrate (2g)

Any side effects with Proactol Plus?

Proactol Plus uses 100% natural ingredients and unlike many fat burners contains no stimulants. You will unlikely suffer from any negative side effects whilst taking this supplement.

On the rare occasion side effects have been reported they are temporary such as mild headaches and an increased heart rate. Taking Proactol Plus in the correct dosage will ensure you minimise any chances of side effects.

Any Proactol Plus Reviews From Customers?

Proactol Plus has a solid track record in helping real people manage and reduce their weight. There are a number of real-life success stories from people that were in the same position as you!

So Does Proactol Plus Work?

Proactol Plus looks to have the most robust clinical trials out of most (if not all the) diet pills we have reviewed.

There are currently 6 clinical and pre-clinical trials on Proactol, including recently a completely independent Human Study in 2011.

The trial included 98 women aged between 18-35, living in the UK, who kept a daily food diary and took Proactol Plus. Results found that 70% of the group reported a positive change in weight after the trial!

Overall the clinical data has proven that Proactol Plus reduces the fat intake from your diet between between 23% and 28.3%, which means you can significantly reduce calories from fat with this supplement.

Where can I Buy Proactol Plus?

One month costs £34.95 (approximately $68.95), you can make incredible savings when you buy 2 months + 1 month FREE offer for £69.95 making it a very reasonable £23 (approximately 30$) per box. You also get a FREE box of Pure Acai Berry + free shipping!

Purchases of 4 months supply or more is backed by an 180-day money-back guarantee, one of the longest guarantees we have seen for diet pills, but you do have to follow fairly strict guidelines in order to qualify.

Watchdog Verdict

Proactol Plus is considered one of the better fat binders on the market and from consumer feedback looks to have less side effects that other similar products.

We liked the fact there are real clinical trials suggesting you can reduce dietary fat intake without massive changes to your diet.

So far so good, however it’s worth noting that calories blocked by this supplement will be fairly low and so weight loss will likely be very slow (you can read our article on fat binders: do the calories stack up here).

The manufacturers of Proactol Plus are so confident that it can work for you they offer a 180-day money-back guarantee. So if your not entirely satisfied you can simply contact them and request a refund! But remember the guarantee is not available on EVERY purchase but on purchases of 4 months or more and as long as you adhere to the guidelines.

If you are looking for a fat binding diet pill that has minimal side effects and can reduce calorie consumption then Proactol Plus is a good choice. Not the cheapest of diet pills on the market but a premium rate product that has been demonstrated to work.

Packed with so-called nutrient rich enzymes and fiber, this diet pill claims to help you reduce your food intake naturally. It contains Glucomannan as one of the main ingredients along with a proprietary blend.

We take a look at Skinny Fiber to find out the truth behind this supplement and whether it is safe.

  • Money back guarantee on offer

Skinny Fiber Cons

  • Product website very confusing
  • Lack of advice and clinical proof
  • May not be sufficient amounts of Glucomannan

Skinny Fiber Review

Skinny Fiber Facts

  • Manufactured by Skinny Body Care, USA
  • Bottles contain 120 capsules or one month’s supply
  • Main ingredient is Glucomannan

Skinny Fiber contains natural ingredients all delivered with large helping of psychobabble that attempts to explain your failure to lose weight in the past. Apparently it all comes down to toxins and a weak immune system caused by eating too much of the wrong food. This function is never fully explained by the advertising.

This diet pill contains key ingredients that are high in fiber and have an appetite suppressing effect by filling your stomach so you do not suffer hunger pangs while you lose weight.

Skinny Fiber is an American diet pill manufactured by Skinny Body Care in the US who are owned by Iconz Global Network, LLC. and is advertised as being the answer to weight loss. Unlike many other supplements on the market this is not a fat burner but an appetite suppressant so will suit consumers who do not like the effects of caffeine. Be warned though, this diet pill does contain stimulant cha de bugre but this is not the principle ingredient. The way that this pill works for weight loss is by filling your stomach thus minimising the effects of hunger. According to the advertising, the ingredients are also rich in enzymes and will help regulate your hormones and reduce the feelings of hunger in your brain.

To use Skinny Body you take two capsules 30 minutes before lunch and again 30 minutes before your evening meal. You are advised to take with a glass of water and the appetite suppressant effect will kick in and prevent you from over eating at mealtimes.

The product information is not very clear about how this diet pill actually works and there is some rather confusing information that goes on about toxins and nutrients, without actually saying anything. We feel that the product information is very incomplete and the result is that it is hard to figure out what it is, that this diet pill actually does.

Konjac Root glucomannanThere is no medical information or scientific proof that Skinny Fiber actually works but the ingredients are natural which is a point in its favour. There have been some medical issues associated with Glucomannan (see our in-depth Glucomannan ingredient article) but the product information does not mention these or any side effects.

The most prominent information given on the Skinny Fiber website seems more concerned with finding new distributors to sell this diet pill, rather than any sound advice about how to use it and what it actually contains.

Because of this sales policy, Skinny Fiber is available for sale from various sellers on Amazon.com and eBay.com. So far, it is not easily available to customers from outside the USA and although some of these third party sellers may ship internationally it will all depend on their own policies.

We are concerned about the lack of health information too. There are no FAQs or information about potential side effects yet some of the ingredients may have potential side effects.

The Skinny Fiber website is confusing, does not appear to work correctly and is extremely difficult to navigate.

For example, although you are invited to join the skinny 90-day challenge and sign up to an auto ship programme where you can receive three free bottles of Skinny Fiber – and we advise you not to do this because diet supplement contracts can be notoriously difficult to cancel.

When you attempt to buy Skinny Fiber direct from the product site, the website requires you to enter the name of “the distributor who referred you”. Even attempting to register with the site and become a site member takes you back to entering the name of your distributor. It is very confusing. If you want to try Skinny Fiber, you will probably be better off going through a third party seller.

Skinny Fiber Concerns

  • May cause side effects
  • Inadequate product information
  • Company appear focused on selling not weight loss using a Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) / Pyramid scheme

What Does Skinny Fiber Claim To Do?

The advertising on the Skinny Body website claims that the diet pills provide the following benefits

  • Proprietary Formula
  • Provide Antioxidant Properties
  • May Help Promote Weight Management
  • Support Healthy Digestion
  • Helps Supports Detoxification
  • Much More!

There is no information given about how this works and the process is not clearly explained.

The advertising goes on to say.

How many times have you tried a diet or weight loss program, followed all the directions, and didn’t get results? It’s not your fault!

This is the major selling point of Skinny Fiber and it is just not that convincing. How do the advertisers know it is not your fault? This is just an attempt to get you onside and into victim mode where you are passively waiting to lose weight with not doing anything to make this happen.

Another big statement is that,

While diet and exercise are always important to your health, moving more and eating less doesn’t always get results…which is the biggest reason why most weight loss programs flat out DON’T WORK!

However, eating less and moving more cannot fail to get results – if you stick at it.

The advertising states that;

until your body is confident enough that it is going to survive without that extra fat, losing weight is almost impossible!

It really does not make sense although we like the notion of the body having emotions. Confident arms perhaps or legs lacking in self esteem? It does not really work like that.

So What Is Skinny Fiber and What Are The Ingredients For Skinny Fiber?

Skinny Fiber contains three key ingredients that act together as an appetite suppressant. The high fibre content of the capsules expand in the stomach and cause the feeling of fullness and the cha de bugre may have some effect as a mild stimulant.

  • Glucomannan: This is a soluble fiber derived from the konjac root, also known as the elephant yam. According to research, it can promote feelings of fullness and bowel movements. It has also been tested and widely found to help reduce cholesterol levels and maintain the metabolism in a healthy way. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16320857

The major problem with this ingredient is that it has not yet been tested for safety and long-term use. Although there is some clinical support for potential health benefits, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved any product containing Glucomannan for the treatment of medical conditions.

Risks of taking Glucomannan include choking and/or blockage of the throat, oesophagus or intestine, according to international adverse reaction case reports. It is also important to note that these products should NOT be taken immediately before going to bed. According to Health Canada, you should ensure you take plenty of water. Source: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/88/4/1167.full

Lastly and most importantly, ALL clinical research showing significant weight loss is based on 3000mg per day. This supplement contains just over 2000mg in the recommended serving per day.

  • Caralluma: Is a cactus plant that is found wild in India and is often used in times of food shortages because it is said to minimise the feelings of hunger. According to a two-month clinical test carried out by the University of Bangalore on 50 people with a BMI over of over 25, Caralluma had a beneficial effect upon weight loss and waist size and does help reduce appetite. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17097761
  • Cha de Bugre: Is a native Brazilian tree that produces a red fruit similar to a coffee bean and these berries are often used as a coffee substitute. It is a stimulant and is popular in Brazil as an energy drink. Also known as Cordia Salifocia , this fruit may have health benefits but remains unproven for promoting weight loss.

A big problem with Cha de bugre is that in its native form, this ingredient may be beneficial but the Brazilian government has controlled export. This means it is unlikely that you will find genuine cha de bugre in uncontrolled third party supplements such as Skinny Fiber. Source: http://www.chadebugre.com/index-1.html

So What Does All This Mean?

The ingredients contained in Skinny Fiber have not undergone enough clinical evaluation to prove efficacy or safety. The FDA has not approved Glucomannan as a treatment for medical obesity and there are concerns about a potential health risk with regards the side effect of choking.

Caralluma is equally unproven and although it may be approved in the future, so far results are inconclusive. Cha de Bugre may have health benefits but the fact that export from Brazil is restricted it is unlikely that Skinny Fiber contains much of the stimulant effect. Although it may work in its home country when prepared fresh from the tree, it will probably do little here in supplement form.

Does Skinny Fiber Have Any Side Effects?

According to the product information, Skinny Fiber is safe to use. However the ingredients may cause side effects.

Most worrying is the choking hazard posed by the Glucomannan but you can also expect increased bowel movements and possibly diarrhoea as well. Some customers have experienced nausea and stomach pains.

Caution No particular known side effects. Ensure you take these with plenty of water to minimise choking risks.

Any Skinny Fiber Reviews From Customers?

There are some customer reviews about Skinny Fiber. A few people have reported side effects and many have not lost any weight,

One customer reported;

I take the pills every day 30 minutes before every meal. However, they do not seem to work. No weight loss.

Others have reported;

No I didn’t want to eat, but I didn’t lose not 1 pound…. (and I worked out and changed my everyday workout) I haven’t been so active til now trying hard to lose weight!!!! It upsets me that I couldn’t lose not 1 pound

GARBAGE!!! Does not fill me up, in the least bit. The water I drink to swallow them, does, but not these pills!! I wasted my money! Please save yourself from ordering this junk

However, there are some more positive reviews.

I lost 12 pounds in my first month and then 2 pounds after. I noticed that it does control my appetite if I take 6 pills a day (2 for breakfast, 2 for lunch, 2 for dinner). I did not take them this past weekend and ate like a hog, so I KNOW they work. You need to drink a lot of water to swell the Glucomannan

Please note that this customer has exceeded the recommended daily dose, which we would never recommend with ANY supplement.

So Does Skinny Fiber Work?

It may help you a bit. You could use these pills in an attempt to fill your stomach with fiber to resist the urge to over eat.

Alternatively, you could simply include more fiber into your diet and that way you could save money and avoid potential side effects. Some consumers have found that although their appetite has been decreased they still have not lost much weight.

Where Can I Buy Skinny Fiber?

Skinny Fiber is not available in the shops and if you attempt to buy from the product website, you may be unable to. However, you can find it on Amazon and eBay as well as a few third party websites.

Prices vary. One US seller is offering a bottle of 120 capsules for $58.99, which is a month’s supply and seems to be a standard price.

There is a 90-day challenge that is advertised from the product website and this offers you three free bottles of Skinny Fiber You have to join the site and sign up to an auto ship programme in order to qualify for this offer but it is currently not available direct from the product website. We advise against entering into any auto ship programme because you may find it hard to later cancel.

What About Money Back Guarantee?

Our first look at this supplement it appeared that the money-back guarantee was lacking. After given information from a number of distributors we have managed to find information that indicates a 30-day money back guarantee is on offer. Upon returning the bottle (empty or otherwise) to the distributor you can receive your money-back minus postage costs.

Watchdog Verdict

There are too many unanswered questions surrounding Skinny Fiber. The product website is chaotic, hard to navigate and even to buy. The ingredients contained in the capsules require further testing and Glucomannan has the potential risk of choking.

There does appear to be a money-back guarantee and many of the positive feedback found have gone on to become distributors of the product. Even still when compared to other cheaper alternatives on the market in our opinion this supplement doesn’t quite make the grade.

Diet Pills Watchdog | Avesil Review, Avesil Scam

Avesil

Avesil has been around for a while and has seen some big sales, but after getting a tip off from a reader we thought it was time to take a closer look at it. Do the big sales mean its one of the top diet pills, or is there something else we should all know about when buying Avesil.

Lets take a closer look at Avesil and see what interesting facts we can uncover.

Avesil Pros

  • Nice looking sales page cleverly written

Avesil Cons

  • Sold on a “trial” basis
  • Very expensive for what it is
  • Disclaimers on sales page
  • Poor ingredient information

Avesil Review

Avesil Facts

  • Ingredients not clearly shown
  • Comes from a company with a poor track record
  • Bad customer reviews
  • Lack of clinical evidence

Ok, so let go to the main website Avesil.com.

Straight away the alarm bells start ringing, they are offering this on a “trial” basis. We truly thought these had died a death after the FTC outlawed them a while ago, but it seems its still going on. After the FTC cracked down on the free trial scams, they introduced some very strict rules about what could and couldn’t be said by businesses using this sneaky tactic, and it seems in this case it appears they are within the laws.

In the past, and even now to some extent, the scammers offered “free trials” which were anything but free. Who would believe that right?

So one of the rules is that it can’t be described as a “free trial” but “trial” is OK as long as that is what it is. In this case they are offering a “trial” and as long as the rules of the trial are prominently displayed then they can still do it.

A bit sneaky? Perhaps, but legal nonetheless.

At this stage we are now wondering if a high-powered lawyer has not been employed to go over this site, to make sure it’s compliant in every way. We’ll soon find out.

Avesil website

Ok, so we have a super fit skinny girl drinking water of all things. This is a trick the Utah diet pill scammers use all the time, and is a nice bit of mind association. You are meant to sub consciously think that “this could be you”, without them actually saying it. Ever wonder why they never show a really obese person before they start taking the pill as the main image? Now you know why.

Moving on we have the generic headline, “Fast Safe Weight Loss” as well as some innocuous bullet points;

  • Lose Weight
  • Reduce Appetite
  • Burn Fat Fast
  • Boost Energy

All normal stuff, and rather deliberately no specifics are mentioned. In one way this is good to see, but on the other it means they can’t be held accountable for anything.

  • Don’t fall for the 14-day trial without full understanding it
  • Poor company ratings
  • Bad customer feedback
  • Very expensive
  • No clinical evidence

What About the Rest of the Sales Page?

Further down the page we have the usual testimonials, and then in smaller letters,

Your results will vary. Most people do not lose as much weight

So why on earth print these testimonials if most people are not going to see the same effects? We guess you might not spot this disclaimer at first glance, but it ensures once again that the site is compliant.

So What Is Avesil and What Are The Ingredients For Avesil?

At first glance it’s hard to find out what is in Avesil. But after a bit of searching we find a tiny link in the footer to a FAQ’s popup.

Avesil supplement facts

It’s a bit hard to make out but it seems that each tablet is made up of 100mcg Chromium, and then a proprietary blend of Decaffeinated Green Tea and Ashwagandha Extract (475mg) and Caffeine USP (75mg).

Not that old chestnut, the proprietary blends again. Yup, I’m afraid so, by doing this they can possibly hide the exact quantities of ingredients in order to fill it with the cheaper ingredient. As soon as we see this we are suspicious.

Lets see what each ingredient can do:

  • Chromium (100mcg): – We see this so many times in diet pills, as the makers have latched on to some long since discredited claims that Chromium can help with weight loss. We prefer to follow the advice of the National Institute of Health (http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Chromium-HealthProfessional/), which states the following:

    Body weight and composition

Chromium supplements are sometimes claimed to reduce body fat and increase lean (muscle) mass. Yet a recent review of 24 studies that examined the effects of 200 to 1,000 mcg/day of chromium (in the form of chromium picolinate) on body mass or composition found no significant benefits. In several studies, chromium’s effects on body weight and composition may be called into question because the researchers failed to adequately control for the participants’ food intakes.

So not only do they say it does not have any significant benefits but the amount of Chromium found in Avesil would be at the very lower end of any studies undertaken.

  • Decaffeinated Green Tea: – Many studies have shown the benefits of green tea for weight loss but in most cases it’s normally the caffeinated variety that has the best effect. Without knowing any further details we can not be certain if Avesil contains enough green tea extract and in what composition in order to be effective.
  • Ashwagandha Extract: – Also known as Indian Ginseng, this is a shrub that is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. It is normally used to counteract stress and promote wellbeing. We could find no clinical trials or other evidence to suggest it could be useful for weight loss. Coupled with the lack of indication of the quantities in this product it is impossible to know what it could do.
  • Caffeine USP: – The powdered form of caffeine, this has plenty of research to show its effectiveness for weight loss. The quantities indicated show the same amount as a cup of weak coffee or a can of Red Bull.

So What Does All This Mean?

It’s hard to really make an informed decision when a proprietary blend is used. There is no real indication of what exactly you are taking so it’s not possible to say one way or the other whether Avesil will be effective for weight loss. At first glance you would more than likely get the same effect from having a decent cup of coffee twice a day.

Does Avesil Have Any Side Effects?

No studies have been done either into the effectiveness of Avesil or indeed if there are any side effects from ingesting the mix that they have come up with. There could possibly be long-term damage to the body; at this stage it is impossible to say one way or the other.

By deliberately not listing the quantities of the ingredients used in Avesil, it is not easy to see whether there could be any detrimental side effects to your body

Any Avesil Reviews From Customers?

Apart from the three testimonials on the home page there are no others shown. As the lawyers have insisted on having the disclaimer below these testimonials then it makes them pretty much ineffective. What’s the point showing people who have claimed some big weight loss to then say it probably won’t happen to you?

What we did find was a huge amount of negative feedback from customers on other forums, they are also selling Avesil through Amazon and there is some pretty poor reviews from buyers on there;

So Does Avesil Work?

HIGHLY UNLIKELY!

There is zero evidence presented that Avesil could possibly work. You have no idea what exactly you are buying in what composition so it is impossible to make an informed decision.

The manufacturers have shown no evidence at all that Avesil can be effective for “Fast Safe Weight Loss.”

Where Can I Buy Avesil?

Avesil is available from the official site that is the basis for this review. We took a closer look at the people behind Avesil which is a company called Green Bracket LLC based in Florida. It won’t come as any surprise that they have a dismal BBB rating of “F” with 234 complaints filed against them.

Green Bracket LLC

The two main guys behind Avesil have a chequered history and were prosecuted by the Florida authorities a while ago for running free trial scams with a teeth-whitening product. The Attorney General had this to say:

We particularly found this quote interesting:

The Attorney General’s Office has received hundreds of complaints about the practices of the companies and their owners, one of which was featured in Business Week and on “20/20″ in 2006 as one of “the biggest online spammers.

Happy to buy from these guys? You decide.

So How Much Does Avesil Cost?

Well here’s the clever part, by submitting your details and credit card you initially pay $3.95 for the trial. Bargain don’t you think? But then when you read the terms, the trial is only for 14 days and starts ticking the minute you press the submit button. You then have to wait for delivery and in some of these trials cases we have known the 14 days to be up before people have even received the product!

WE have heard stories of people even having to cancel their credit cards in order to get out of these trials, do not agree to anything unless you totally understand what you are agreeing to.

After the 14 days is up you then get billed for the full amount of $89.95 every 30 days!

Tip: If you are not convinced by our findings and really, really must buy Avesil then buy it from Amazon, that way you pay $59.95 plus shipping once only. It is also far easier to get a refund via Amazon.

Watch Dog Verdict

DO NOT BUY AVESIL.

There are far too many negatives to find with Avesil. From the company behind them, to a questionable ingredient profile, disclaimers all over the place and a “trial” that might catch you out if you are not prepared for it.

There are far better alternatives from trusted companies out there. Always do your homework before buying your diet pills.
